Miguel Torga (1907-1995) pseudonym of Adolfo Correia da Rocha, was the author of a vast, varied and widely recognised literary body of work. Following a period of emigration in Brazil during his adolescence, he moved to Coimbra where he attended the University’s faculty of medicine and continued to live until the end of his life. He received the Camões Prize in 1989 and the Vida Literária Prize (awarded by the Portuguese Writers Association) in 1992. The newspaper O Diário features prominently in his works.
