Columbano Bordalo Pinheiro

Bordalo Pinheiro was a Portuguese naturalist and realist painter. He became the leading painter of his generation and the master of realism in Portuguese painting, specializing in portraiture. After the Republic proclamation in Portugal in 1910, he was member of the commission that decided the design of the new flag.In this interpretation, the tenebrism (chiaroscuro) that was one of his characteristics, was applied.
